Winter presents the gardening enthusiast with time to plan and prepare for a Renewed Spring Garden!
Pruning aims to
- Remove dead and damaged plant material
- Cut away unwanted plant growth
- Select strong healthy shoots, from which new growth is to be encouraged
Pruning is not difficult. There are no 'rights' and 'wrongs'.
Howver, the following basic advice is recommended.
- Use a clean sharp pruning shear
- Cut stems at an angle and seal qounds with Sterseal
- Apply Lime Sulphur to dormant plants (i.e. Roses & Fruit trees) to ensure new growth is disease and pest free)
- Oleum controls overwintering insects.
